Stew’s background is a diverse blend of real estate including design and architecture, new home design and construction, home remodeling and renovation and project management expertise. A graduate of UC Berkeley’s Architecture School, Stew has held both architectural and general contractor’s licenses since 1982. He began his career designing and building custom homes in the canyons and along the beaches of Santa Monica and Malibu, and since then has designed and built all types of residential housing including historic restoration projects, senior housing, ADU’s, Tiny Homes and intentional communities.

A long-time environmentalist and smart-growth advocate, he is thrilled to be involved in the ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) and Tiny Home movement. Now in his third decade of surfing, white-water kayaking, and building fine furniture, Stew lives with his family in North County San Diego.

Travis Deal

Architectural Design | Permitting Expediter

Travis has for many years practiced in the Greater San Diego area with a focus on North County. He works closely with clients, making certain that they clearly understand all aspects of their new home, remodel or guest home / ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) project by creating 3D CAD drawings, virtual walkthroughs, hand sketches and even cardboard models! His long-time experience moving projects through consultant coordination and city plan reviews in our area both accelerates and simplifies what can often become the ‘rocky road’ of permit processing.

Mark Perkins

Construction | Supervision

Mark Perkins also began learning his craft at a young age, apprenticing with a custom cabinet maker where he learned the art of cabinet making as well as other areas of finish, trim and rough carpentry. Over the last 21 years Mark has owned his own cabinet ship, worked for one of San Diego’s premier woodworking companies, and built residential remodels and new construction.

Mark provides the day-to-day supervision and management for SM-DesignBuild projects, ensuring that all projects meet the company’s highest standards for craftsmanship, cleanliness and timely completion. His years of experience with cabinet making and finish carpentry help lend thoughtful and sophisticated design and detailing to our work.
